Our commitment
FeedWise is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, navigate by keyboard, need larger text, or prefer reduced motion. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
What we have done
- Colour contrast: body and secondary text was tested against every background we use and meets the 4.5:1 minimum for normal text.
- Keyboard navigation: every button, link, form field and list item can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone, and a visible focus outline shows where you are.
- Skip link: a "skip to main content" link appears when you press Tab, so keyboard users can jump past the navigation.
- Labels: every form field has a real, associated label. Errors are announced, not just coloured.
- Screen readers: the page uses proper landmarks and headings, decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers, and the results that update as you type are announced.
- Reduced motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, animations and smooth scrolling are turned off.
- Zoom and resizing: the layout reflows and remains usable when text is enlarged.
- Touch targets: buttons are sized for use with gloves in a barn — at least 44 × 44 pixels.
- Plain language: results are given in flakes, bales and dollars, with explanations of why each number was chosen.
Known limitations
We would rather tell you what is not perfect than pretend it is:
- Some feed-plan screens are long, and reaching the buttons at the bottom takes a number of keystrokes.
- Photographs you upload have no automatic alternative text, because only you know what is in them.
- FeedWise has not yet been formally audited by an independent accessibility specialist.
Tell us about a problem
If any part of FeedWise is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us — it genuinely helps, and we will fix what we can. Email hellofeedwise@gmail.com and, if you can, include the page, what you were trying to do, and the device or assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within a few days.
If you need the information another way
If you cannot use the app but want a feed plan for your horse, email us with your horse's details and your region and we will send you one in a format that works for you, at no charge.
